Tablescape Thursday: Pretty in Pink Bridal Luncheon Table

Yesterday I showed a picture of my lovely white peony bouquet in my dining room that formed the centerpiece for today's post; a tablescape I've called 'Pretty in Pink'. I also added some bridal touches to my table. The inspiration for this theme came in part from the peonies, which have become a very trendy bridal bouquet flower and also because it's the month of  June, which is a very popular month for weddings.

This pretty table I think would make a lovely setting for a small gathering for a bridal lunch. I'll be joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday!

Welcome to my dining room; let's step through the French doors!

                                        Elegant silver candleabra hold pink taper candles.

        I've used the dinner plates from my formal china set, mixed with some thrifted dishes as salad plates.     
                                        The placemats are "Old Country Roses" by Royal Albert.

           I've used my Mikasa Jamestown Platinum water goblets and champagne flutes for the glassware.

Of course, the occasion calls for the good silverplate flatware!

I used pink damask napkins and folded them into a favorite fold of mine, the 'bishop's hat'.

For an extra bridal touch, I wrapped white tulle around the vase of peonies and some of my vintage cabinet cards depicting wedding couples are scattered across the table.

This dove figurine was sitting on top of the piano in the hall, but I brought it in to make up part of the centerpiece, adding a pink ribbon for the occasion!

This footed bowl with pink roses makes a lovely serving piece for the table.

 This pink depression glass platter was a recent gift from my mother-in-law at Easter. She filled it with Easter grass and Easter goodies and then wrapped it in lilac cellophane.

I just love old cabinet cards........

I've heard some people wonder why the folks in old pictures never smiled and always looked 'grim'. I've heard two explanations for this; it's been posited that the taking of a picture took a lot longer and the subject had to sit really, really still. Any movement at all and the person would be blurred and smiling while sitting motionless for five minutes or however long it took to take the picture was too tiring. I've also heard that not smiling was actually the "proper" way to sit for a portrait ( a painted one or photographic one); smiling was considered 'uncouth' and a person grinning giddily in a photograph would have been considered in poor taste and probably also a little crazy.

I don't know which is true (or if neither are true) but if I had to guess, maybe it was a combination of both.
